Flawed food system failing Australians' health, new report finds

29 Jul 2026
A new report from the Food for Health Alliance shows a broken food regulation system that puts industry interest ahead of Australians’ health. The report assesses Australian governments’ action on food labelling reforms recommended in a 2011 review of Australia's food labelling law and policy - 'Labelling Logic.' 15 years later just 3 of the 40 public health recommendations in the 'Labelling Logic' review have been fully implemented.

More than 1.4 million children above a healthy weight as Australia falls behind national targets

New data released today from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has shown that overweight and obesity remain a major public health challenge. Concerningly, the data shows that obesity is starting earlier and affecting more people over their lifetime with overweight and obesity in children (5-17 years) increasing from 25% in 2017-18 to 28% in 2022-24.

Government neglect of diabetes prevention policies a blow to Australian’s health

Food for Health Alliance is disappointed in the government’s response to the Federal Parliamentary Inquiry into Diabetes, released on Budget night, which has failed to action strong, evidence-based policies to prevent type 2 diabetes.
