Obesity Policy Coalition (OPC) welcomes the Victorian Government’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures action plan, announced today by the Minister of Health.

Comments from Jane Martin, Executive Manager, OPC

Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures recognises the importance of giving children and young people the best start in life. What is wonderful is that this strategy sets out a roadmap for all areas of government to work together to achieve this vision.

“This is a strategy that has a focus on primary prevention to build the foundations for good health, but also has a plan for implementation. It provides tangible actions which are key to improving diets and addressing the significant burden unhealthy weight is having on the future health of our young Victorians, with one in four children at risk,” Ms Martin said.

Ms. Martin welcomed the Government’s commitment to explore legislative options to create healthier environments.

“We all want our kids to grow up in environments where they are surrounded by nutritious, healthy food, without the predatory influence of unhealthy food and drink marketing. The Victorian Government has demonstrated its commitment to prioritising children’s health and we look forward to working collaboratively to ensure all Victorian children can enjoy a healthy start and a happy future,” she said.
